    Vallejo Model Air Conversion

    Yup. Me again.

So having been persuaded to go for individual bottles rather than box sets, I'm finding myself mired in the most painful activity - conversion charts.

I've gone through the stash and am planning to get a few models worth of paints rather than just the next one (though I might end up giving up on that plan). Only issue is that going through Vallejo, Humbrol, paint4models.com (most useful yet), I find that there's LOADS that there isn't even a suggestion of what to go for, which is odd as looking at the Humbrol descriptions, I would be seriously surprised if there was no Dark Earth, or Cockpit Green, or Gloss White in Vallejo's Model Air range...

And yet, these are the Humbrol numbers I cannot find an equivalent for:

    21, 24, 29, 64, 70, 72, 78, 85, 96, 98, 106, 163, 164, 165, 186

So I'm going to assume this is me not finding a good enough chart. What are people using where you simply look up Humbrol's number (in an ordered list, rather than numbers in any old place) and then it tells me the Vallejo Model Air equivalent, which doesn't have to be 100% exact!

    Any help gratefully appreciated...

      That's what I used.

Unticked everything I could, ticked Humbrol and Vallejo, sorted on Humbrol.

Scroll to Humbrol 29, Dark Earth - no Model Air equivalent

Scroll to Humbrol 78, Cockpit Green - no Model Air equivalent

Scroll to Humbrol 96, RAF Blue - no Model Air equivalent

These are all common external colours (well, maybe not Cockpit Green, but you'd still use an airbrush)...

There are equivalents for each of those colour sin Vallejo's 'Model Color' range (as opposed to Model Air).

Thanks guys, got there in the end. Only three I couldn't match, two were variants of black so gave up on them. Rather large order placed with SMS shop!

              These are another 2 Mike.

Some times you can get close to a colour by cross referencing another maker and then come back around the corner. You get a colou you want with the paint manufacturer that you want to use.

But it just goes to show that the accuracies of the equivalents is close but not spot on. But then no body will know. Also a warning not to expect colour charts to be accurate as they are very very inaccurate.
