    Rearranged spray booth

I like a lot of elbow room when I'm painting, and despite buying a fairly large spray booth it still felt a bit cramped when I had several items in there, the paints, cleaning pot etc.

Here's how it was before :

So I've cut a hole in the top of my "hutch", partly disassembled the booth, and put it on top so that it draws air upwards from the space below:

As you can see it's given me loads of space (1/48 & 1/35 models for scale)

It's still in a proof of concept stage, but that kind of extraction works for cooker hoods so fingers crossed. I have a temporary light rigged up for now but if the booth works as I hope I'll find some 12v led strip lights to wire into the booths dimmer switch.

That looks good Andy. I hope it works as well as it looks. Certainly the extra space is a bonus. Hope you've put in a new filter ?

That looks brilliant Andy, now for the testing phase.

Thanks guys, I thought it was worth a shot.

I know the air velocity will be greatly reduced but it passed my usual test - clearing a lung full of vape smoke, similar to how full sized spray booths are tested, but I'll know more once I actually start spraying.

Spraying booths ? You posh lot. As I work in the garage my ventilation is putting the garage door open. Not to pleasant in winter I must add. Looks great Andy.

Thanks Steve. I've served my time working out in a shed, either freezing cold or baking hot, I don't envy you.

Suitably inspired Andy... Off to find a cupboard I can use.

Hey, how you getting on with that Jelly cushion you bought? Any good?

It's working well too Ian, I just need to sort out the lighting.

Cushion is great. I don't really notice it's there, which I suppose is a good thing, but can sit for much longer without discomfort (maybe a bad thing ?)

One other advantage I've found - dropped parts used to fall between my legs, bounce off the leather seat, and catapult under the desk. The cushion absorbs the fall, so 90% of drops stay in my lap.

I've made a more permanent outlet for the booth. Up to now I've been poking the pipe out of an open window, but having forgotten to close it a couple of nights I thought I'd better do as I originally planned.

I removed the glass pane and replaced it with a 'sandwich' of thick plastic / pir insulation / plywood to make up the thickness. To this I've fitted a vent with louvres that should reduce the amount of cold air being blown back into the room.

It still needs a lick of paint on the inside but it's functioning well
