MIG Acrylic For general airbrushing and Weathering

Barry W introduced me to Mig Acrylics on this forum a little while ago.

I thought oh no not another lot I HAVE to try.

Well these new acrylics are superb. I have tested them in a large area using a .35 needle and a pressure about 18% (not fussy as long as it is around that range). The finish is really good. a better finish than Vallejo and a little better than Lifecolor.

Also last night used it for various weathering and shading. Vallejo is good and Lifecolor but this stuff is superb. With Lifecolor and Vallejo after thinning say 40/60 I still get clogging. Using about a pressure of 8PSI. I could not thin more as I then got the spurts even at very low PSI.

Mig Acrylic I would think I was probably on 50 % thinners at 8PSI and a .35 needle. I had a cup full which I used over a period of about an hour stopping and starting with every now and then an extended period stop now and then. Not once was there a fumble it just kept on spraying no sign of clogging ( not so with Vallejo & Lifecolor). I got as close as to near touching the model in places and this mixture performed perfectly.

Also tried it with a .2 needle. Very nice for fine detail. With Vallejo and Lifecolor I had to regularly stop to unclog. Needle out with dried paint. In the crown area of the nozzle a build up of paint. So far no such symptoms with Mig Acrylic at all. Not one clog up.

With this paint you do not need washes just make your own. Can only think that the contents are milled smaller than the other two paints. But I do think that the answer is a lot to do with the thinners. I just wonder if it may have a bit of IPA in there. It does have a health warning on the bottle NOCIVO (what ever that mean). Harmful. not for children under 10.

Mig or AK Interactive Laurie? - it is AKI that I have used and have not used Mig though it seems they have the same qualities I like about AKI as described by you above. The difference is that with the Air series (air for aircraft) they dont need thinning with the .35 plus needle. Like you describe, I have had no clogging at all with them. Tonight I will be doing my 'longest spray' yet with them when I airbrush the underside camo on the 1/24 Tiffy so that will be a big test.

It is a bit confusing as Mig Jiminuez was associated with Vallejo, helped set up AKI, splitting with them and setting up MIG.

By the way the AKI acrylics thin beautifully with Vallejo thinners.

Yes come around any time dearie here all day you can see the real thingy. We have the music. "Sweet dreams are made of Acrylic". Or as an alternative choice "Land of Hope and Acrylics".

You have an obsession Patrick. Enamel. It can be cured I believe. It entails a visit to the local tip. The used paint bin. At the exit they have a relief area. Called the Enamel Addict Users Relief Station. One Asprin per person is dispensed for those in real distress. There is even an area which is given over to the use of Acrylics for dis-enfranchised Enamel Addicts. Jimany, a physiologist in acrylic conversion, is there. Tissues are free for those in mortal distress.

But hope is just around the corner as you drive out. An Acrylic shop selling Vallejo, Lifcolor Mig Acrylic and AK Interactive. Life begins at this corner. Model Makers can be seen leaving the area in party mood as happy as they have ever been. Again tissues are free for those who weep and feel they have been saved.

Rather like leaving Brentford football ground and dashing in to Hull City Tigers ground. Hope is at hand a new world dawns life begins here. :P

Ha-ha oh how I'd like to see! So pictures! We want pictorial proof of these high-faltuting claims pardner!

Vallejo? Pah! Even on his DVD you can see Mig wiping the needle all the time! And what's with an acrylic paint that can't be handled within at least 24 hours?!

However, if a company made an acrylic in decent colours that sprayed as well & easily as my beloved enamels, I'd take the plunge into a new relationship!

Hull? Isn't that a grotty little town up north?
