    Iwata Eclipse HP- CS

    hi guys

Just wanted to share my views and thoughts on my new Iwata Eclipse HP- CS. It arrived through the post from John at SMS.

I took it to pieces to see what was what and reassembled perfectly. The weight is a little heavy for an airbrush compared some other makes, it is a good weight though.

I agree with other comments on smaller intricate detail brushes that may be smaller and lighter, but for general use I believe this airbrush can do a great deal.

I then popped in a few drops of Vallejo thinners and few drops of a Vallejo paint. Putting y thumb over the end cap I back aired to mix the paint and thinners. Giving a quick stir with a cut down cotton bud I believe the airbrush was ready for its first spray.

Close on a piece of kitchen towel I could get fine lines and further away a more general spray. I also tried the Luftwaffe mottle pattern and this was easily achieved with the A/b. Taking an old piece of plastic wing ( 1/48 ) from my spares drawer I found that presiding was easily achieved and control over the air adequate.

I was spraying at 12/15 psi and this seemed to be adequate, possibly this could be dropped lower if need be.

I still have a few armour models in my stash and when it comes to highlights and definition lines I believe I should have no difficulty.

    Now tio cleaning

With the main cup now empty I put in cup few drops of a/b cleaner and few drops of distilled water, again thumb over the end I back aired to clean the nozzle of paint.

Flushing the air brush with Luke warm water and using cotton buds ( q tips ) the brush was cleaned and ready to go for next paint.

The Iwata Eclipse came with small tube of lubricant ( have lots of that anyways from other a/b and a small spanner to remove the needle protector

    Overall conclusion

This airbrush is a good mainstay for any modeller ( yes there are equivelant a/b out there and better more expensive examples, but through choice I believe the Iwata Eclipse is a very good Airbrush for the modeller

    Kind regards

I think you will be better off using a brush to mix in th bowl Robert. You have to get around the corners into the needle nozzle area. Use a good brush as yoypu do not want loose hairs in that area.

Nice airbrush. But you wait until you get that HS. As mentioned Robert that CS will be relegated to the shelf.

I have this one and an Iwata Hi Line HP-CH. however, I use the iwata eclipse for main work, while the HP-CH is for fine work.

Laurie, what type of HS do you own? I just ordered the Evolution Silverline 2 in 1. Hope that's a good one for an upgrade

Leo the HS is an Iwata. Very confusing.

On the Harder Steinbeck they are very nice airbrushes. Have two but being on holiday, taking a reluctant deprived no model time, I cannot remember the H and S types.

But both I have worked perfectly and are very very easy to clean, Iwata not.

.Seemed to me that H and S are very much the same. I think that Iwata's main advantage is in detailing small area stuff. H and S great for large area stuff.

No way!! I'll try repair the seals if that does not work, I'll plead with SWMBO, and get a genuine IWATA compressor! :P

Not the seals that have gone Gavin it is the regulators.

Iwata do not make their own compressors I have been assured they are made for Iwata by Sparmax. This man services both. Sparmax is considerably cheaper although Iwata has a more sporty appearance.

As Laurie said, the regulators are cheap & the seals inside are ...cardboard! I know, I've had mine in bits!

The overheating can easily be controlled by using a cheap desk fan, but buy a better regulator - that can be used even if you change the compressor.

I'm sure its the seals - I hear a hissing of air escaping from the connection to the reservoir .......o_O

Get a length of tubing, 6mm ID is ideal & with one end in your ear, pass the other over suspected leak points.

You'll quickly ascertain where the air is coming from. You could go down the soapy front, but my way is less messy!
