Had a big issue last night with my Iwata Neo airbrush, not the best time as trying to finish ‘this’ 1/35 WLA bike review, but nothing worked, first off no air was coming out the brush, then it started to splutter, so reduced the seal between the body and the cap and got bubbles, so air was getting to that part of the brush. Now a couple of years ago I attended a very expensive Problem solving course (kepner & Trego), which basically teaches you how to take a problem apart and work at component level (bear with me this does go somewhere), so time to put this £2000 into practice. So making this process a bit simpler;
Identify the problem –
What is the fault – no air/ paint been sprayed, what is the item – now this starts at the largest level and gets broken down – Airbrush, What has changed –– the needle, why – previous one was bent at the tip, when – Today, how – replaced with a new branded one
Resolve the problem
If you remove the needle is the problem resolved – yes, what would stop the paint/air been released – blocked nozzle tip, if you remove the nozzle tip does air flow – yes, does the nozzle have a blockage – No, what would stop air flow- blocked nozzle, If you pull the trigger does the needle retract into the nozzle – NO, if you adjust the needle to enable it to pull back into the nozzle – does air/paint flow – YES
Problem
Incorrect placement of the needle within the body of the airbrush
Further prevention
Ensure correct adjustment of the needle.
Now in my defence I ordered the correct needle – same as supplied with the brush, it seemed the correct length as fitted within the housing, but would appear to be a generic needle which requires a lot of adjustment by the user, this is not explained anywhere. Anyway – brush is now spraying correctly at 20psi, instead of whispering at 45psi.
