    My airbrush has gone West.........

Hi folks, my Chinese airbrush has given up the ghost gone so far West I think it's started go swim the Atlantic. .......bloody hope so anyway.

I need to source a replacement, preferably non Chinese but cheap as I'm on a low budget. If anyone can help out I would really appreciate it, I'm a hairs width away from chucking the modelling towel in.

    Cheers, Dave

What's the problem with your AB Dave? Sometimes the symptoms aren't always a sign of terminal failure.

But if you're in the market, I'd recommend the Harder & Steenbeck Ultra. Speak to John @SMS, he's always up for a decent price.

It's just had its day mate, these Chinese things are OK for a while but after a few strip downs between sessions they seem to weaken internally, crap o rings and washers I reckon, I've had a couple of these and they go the same way, I stripped my latest one done, changed the needle, nozzle and crown head etc for all new ones, it just kept on splatting paint out, irrespective of the consistency of the paint mix, thinned the paint thickened the paint with no difference, changed the pressures, cleaned out the air tank and filters etc ensuring that there is no moisture anywhere, compressor is new. Just crap airbrushes. Looking at the harder and steenbeck ultra, looks like a good airbrush.

I have H&S silverline and it is awesome airbrush. you can't go wrong with H&S ultra or another one, they are way better than the chineese things ( i have used one of those in the past). H&S are German made and believe it or not, this makes a difference.

That's fair enough! I was a cheapo airbrush user myself until a few months ago when I took the plunge for the H & S Ultra - wish I'd done it sooner now!

I too use the H&S ultra, albeit with the bigger cup, which is £7 extra.

Ive still got chinese airbrushes, and i found the teflon needle guide is normally loose, mine begun to give me problems, i stripped it twice, new o rings and still the same. So i did a full strip and cleaned the body fully. When i put the teflon guide bush back in, and the retaining screw, i found i could so it up, and the needle woild barely get through. A 1/4 turn back, and some airbrush lube, and the needle was a very good fit. Tight but the spring could retun the needle ok.

Its till going strong now, although i use it for primer work only now, the Ultra is for detail and colour.

Id certainly go the Ultra route Dave, its only a few quid more than an Iwata Neo, (which isnt an Iwata and barely better than a £10 chinese AB! )

Mine is a Harder and Steenbeck CR+, 0.4 mm nozzle. A superb quality tool. (Quite expensive, but good tools are.)
