    Applying armour camo .

Guys, I really seem to be struggling applying a camo pattern to my armour kits. I've practised no end with the AB but just cant hold a steady line.

Tried cutting bits of masking tape but found this very time consuming and tedious. Maskol fluid I have even tried but this hasn't been to successful either. I'm now thinking of small white tack sausages.

How do you guys go about adding camo patterns to your builds,

Never an easy way Alan. Due to the nature, and shape, of armour it's always going to be a tad fraught.

I personally nearly always freehand it if it is a simple two or three colour scheme as I am a big fan of the slightly soft edge you get. Masking tape is time consuming but is potentially the most accurate especially for hard edge schemes. The 251Half Track recently completed by Scott shows just how good this method can be.

If I have to mask then white tack sausages, they need to be thin on 1/35,is my preferred method. I start by covering the whole vehicle in the lighter shade first I then lay down the sausages, without flattening them to give me a softer feathered edge, for where the next lighter shade goes. I then use masking tape to cover where I need to keep the first colour. This is then repeated for any further colours. The painted over white tack can be re used, just give it a good mix back into a ball and the paint all but disappears.

This method is not quick and does not suit some schemes such as the German circle camo and can be very fiddly for the tri colour 'ambush' scheme. But for normal semi random two or three colour schemes, it works fine.

Either way, masking, like preparation, is the biggest and possibly hardest, part of painting. Sadly, there is no easy fix
