One of the best ways to minimise the amount of cleaning/stripping down your airbrush needs is to ensure that the following is always done, especially with acrylics.
Air on then paint on - paint off then air off. Turning the air off last helps prevent paint drying on the needle.

That's actually very good practice that helps prevent spatters too. I was taught airbrushing as part of my design communication course and these was beat into us.
I do feel some of the alchemy advise above is not that sound for someone starting out just buy a proprietary brand of airbrush/ tool cleaner it does what it says on the can its what its been developed for just because the formula in these other things are almost the same so what thats not what they've been developed for ,unless you want to clean your windows with airbrush cleaner because its almost the same ,oh and apparently you can build your kit with cellulose paint thinner yeh its almost the same as Tamiya extra thin thats why on the bottle of tet it says can also be used to thin cellulose paint. Please just buy a proper air brush cleaner like the rondelle advert it does what it says on the tin.
I agree with Dave. When you're just starting out in airbrushing there are a lot of variables to get used to, so why add a couple more by using home brew thinners and cleaners?
Pete
Sure. I guess I'll go with the proper tools, etc and see how it goes (when I get it all set up )
I think the guys giving me advice b/4 are only trying to help my wallet ( being a skinflint)
Fair comments guys. Just thinking about costs. Proprietary products are probably best to start with.
I know I'm being niggly saying it, but it's Ronseal

I find the smileys only work when you use the icon button at the top of the text window…….those on the keyboard itself don’t work for some reason.

Thanks Dave. Agree with your point though. May not have been the most helpful advice for a beginner, albeit from a position of wanting to help. Thanks for pointing that out. You are correct, and I hadn't really thought it through.
I'll call this my final post now...
many thanks to everyone who has/is helped me so far in my journey.
i promise to post how I have got on in the future
When I say I love this forum, I really do
