german ww11 uniform camo colours

I have a couple of motorcycle figures I am about to paint the style of clothing would suggest it is of the camo type. As I bought these in a job lot the seller had removed most of the packaging and with it the colour call outs. I know it will depend on what theatre they are to be set in and have chosen the european one. What I need is some help with getting the colours for the above. I have to hand revell, Vallejo and tamiya acrylics if that helps.

When you say that the figures look to be in a camo uniform, I'm guessing you're thinking of the ' pea pattern ' used initially by Waffen SS units & later by the Wehrmacht?

If so, then if you can wait until tomorrow, I can show you the tank crew for my E-50 that's in such a scheme. I've used Tamiya Desert Yellow, Red Brown & Olive Drab with the dots done by fine tip felt pens.

However, I'd have thought that motorcycle riders would have worn leathers or something to protect them from the elements? Like here in my King Tiger dio

Ok you have the SS camouflage which is the pea dot camo style patterns or is it the Italian style camouflage that german forces wore, to be able to tell if you look at the figures body section, is the jacket a smock with ruffled style cuffs or is it the standard german field jacket? If the figure is wearing a smock then it will be the SS camouflage schemes that you will need such as the pea dot pattern in total there are 11camouflage styles worn by the SS.

Camo smocks were worn over the uniform, so webbing wouldn't have usually been visible - unlike your figures there Terry!

Here's a selection of smocks- the first two are Waffen SS ones & the third is a Wehrmacht ' marsh pattern ' one.

Hi Terry don't know if you have this so I will give you it anyway the site is introduction to german wwii camouflage patterns this is useful as it will instruct you on how to paint them. This is an SS smock so you can have platanmuster or plane tree camo,

Rauchtarnmuster smoke camo pattern

Palmenmuster palm tree pattern

Eichentaubmuster Oak leaf pattern

Telomimetico 1929 captured from the Italians

Erbsenmuster pea dot pattern

and finally Leibermuster body pattern

Scott one has the ruffled cuffs and he other doesn't as can be seen in the pics I have posted. looking at the box art and Richi's link I am tempted to go with the splinter camo No2.

I think Revell colour 360 might be good, Humbrol colour 149 is also a good idea, it goes well as a base colour for German mountain troops too, make sure it is Matt though as it doesn't dry right if it isn't :-)
