A question about RLM desert colours.

I'll be starting on a Zvedza 1/48 Bf109 F4 soon. I wanted a tropical version, so I bought some decals, expecting the recommended underside colour to be a pale, Man City type blue, in keeping with the many models I've seen of this kind. The paintscheme with the decals shows RLM 78 as a much greyer blue, and a bit of Googling shows up a variety of colours. I'm not sure which colour to go for.

I'm also torn between the top and middle scheme, but that's a different issue.

RLM 78 for the bottom half sounds about right RLM 79 would be the Africa brown colour on top, maybe refer to steves stonas knowledge on this.

RLM 78 (undersides) and RLM 79 would be the colours. RLM 78 was a fairly constant colour and distinctly bluer than the European RLM 76 underside colour.

RLM 79 either varied (some give different versions) or the Luftwaffe used something else it first arrived in the Mediterranean theatre.

Your 1942 aircraft should be in the standard colours.

Here's my version of said colours which may (or may not) be useful. They have been lightened for scale and the African sun

Thanks for the replies. Your Hellblau looks more like what I was expecting - a bit more grey than the sky blues I've seen elsewhere. It's just the colours on the sheet I had seemed quite dark.
