    Alclad

Hi all now I've never used this stuff before and I have a 1/32 mustang needing built and I was wondering, for an aluminium finish do you use the regular stuff or the high shine stuff? second if you are using the high shine stuff the alclad site states that you cannot use any kind of masking once painted... so how would you air brush the nose and tail colours if you cannot mask?

Unless you are doing a modern 'air show queen' I would suggest non-highly polished shades like aluminium and airframe aluminium. Remember that the wings were not natural metal but painted with aluminium lacquer.

      Cheers

If you haven't used alclad before I highly recommend some practice pieces 1st before you unleash it on your 1/32 mustang I had a bit of a nightmare with it on my 1st attempt but have now managed to tame the beast.Theres nothing wrong with alclad it just goes wrong if you make mistakes or apply it wrongly due to inexperience so just make sure you get some practice 1st.Don't forget to spray at a low pressure about 10-15 psi seems to work well for my airbrush.Good luck cheers John

Scott be warned the bare metal alclad gives a great finnish but will wear off if model is handled to much , alclad do clear coats that work well but you do lose a bit of that natural metal look , maybe worth trying the metal alclad and maybe clear on a cheap kit first , plus it takes a little while to get used to .

i used their black gloss base first over a layer of standard halford primer and then sprayed about six different colours of alclad. had no problems with the masking for the red bits at all scott. had no issues with paint lift at all but but watch your fingerprints as the alclad shows every blemish up.
