    Micro air blower

Cleaning the room in which I make and store models I looked at all the models with film of dust over them. Who needs weathering.

Next cleaning a little Harder and Steenbeck Micro Blower there was the answer. I use this to get shot of any little hairs and dust prior to airbrushing.

On average a wreck a couple of aerials or rigging in my quest for cleaning either with a brush or rag.

So I upped the compressor to 40 PSI. Use the air blower on a Spitfire and Hurricane and there they were looking as though they had been just put on the shelf dust free. Great advantage is that nothing touches the model at all other than air.

This is the little fellow. Comes with a normal or fine outlet. Illustration shows the fine out let.

Search and you will get it for about £24.

Laurie I just use an airbrush to do the same thing!

I also use some kind of soft make-up brush liberated from SWMBO, which is also good for computer keyboards and similar.

    Cheers

An airbrush may suffice for 1/48 and 1/24 monoplane with little detail. But not on a 1/72 bi plane with a lot of rigging Steve or into a Merlin detail or into a MK1K landrover filled with its junk . The long nozzle gets in all the corners. The unit is about half the length of an average airbrush. The closer you get I have found this morning the cleaner the paintwork ie about 5 mm or less.

I have the blower permanently connected to the compressor at 40PSI. At work top I have another pressure regulator which has a feed for airbrushes. Otherwise to blow just before airbrushing necessitates changing brushes and air pressure.

Why not use display cases & save all that hassle?

They'd need to be airtight in my house! Even the models I do have in a display case need the occasional clean.

          Cheers

Oh Patrick you are not a minimalist are you ?

For me I like to see the models on show so that visitors, and of course self can see them. For me there is no contest viewing a solitary aircraft through a glass window and viewing on an airfield with a scene and sky to make it realistic. Plus the biggest advantage seeing the scale of aircraft one against the other. You can also see the development of aircraft on my airfield. Bi-planes mono planes of WW11 Falklands into Afganistan. Not forgetting they view in model form all these aircraft which can be seen and most flying in the real. Also like to show visitors around and under the aircraft if they are interested. Also i can mve them around for further interest.

I built them if I can get some kudos out of them I am happy. They just look good all sitting looking at each other. I am not one to be clinical. May be a little more cleaning but like all things it is the final result that matters.

Picture which shows how "minimalist" the airblower is. From the trigger, the most forward obstruction, there is a full reach of 3inches. On the Airbrush less than one inch from the cup. Another plus is there is not the large cone of air as on an airbrush as there is not a needle to widen the cone. With the airblower he cone is very small.
