Ammo boxes in the desert?

    Ammo boxes in the desert?

    would we have painted our ammo boxes in a tan colour in North Africa WWII


    I can only find the standard colour on Google


    Any help is much appreciated

    I wouldn't imagine they would have bothered to paint ammunition boxes Alan. The sun would bleach the heck out of them anyway. But I may be wrong. Maybe look for a British aircraft being re armed or suchlike to see what colour the boxes are in those photos.

      My maths teacher had been a navigator on Wellingtons in the Desert


      He said that during the daytime before a raid they would capture scorpions and keep them in an old ammo box. On their way to the target they would empty the box over the German positions.

        I've looked at loads of photos on google but there is no reference to desert apart from German types so your probably correct Joe

        great story , I haven't heard that one before, the scorpion would have survived the drop as well so I would imagine it would be a bit annoyed as well , I wouldn't like to be the sod that opened it though

          Standard dark green...They got chucked when empty and those mounted out side of a tank/truck where not there very long....
