New compressor required? What one?

Hi guys. I have a small revell (probably sparmax -it has a sparmax reg) compressor with no volume tank.

I might want to get a fan pattern airbrush for body work on Cars etc... As the 0.6 needle on the infinity cr+ is good but apparently I'll get a better finish with a fan pattern and less over spray.


I had been considering a separate volume tank which is about 5l volume and £80 but a fan pattern airbrush /gun needs 30-50 lpm apparently where my compressor runs at 23lpm. I could get a 24l workshop compressor but my shed is small and these are quite loud but the price is good.

Which bursts the budget and isn't much better than mine with a tank.


Therefore who has had a similar predicament and has used a fan pattern brush and knows what I can get away with?

I'd forget about the liters per minute rating Doug, that's only the measurement from the compressor, not what's coming through the AB.


Once the air has been compressed, its flow is therefore higher than that. Just compare the flow while running the compressor without an AB hooked up & with one on it.


The flow is much stronger coming thorough the airbrush.


IMHO, running a fan pattern spray at 40+ psi will be fine & any modelers compressor will manage that.


If you decide an enclosure is needed, have a search from Laurie's profile page - he made a good one recently & cheaply too!

I have just bought this one for £69 with tank, from Amazon. (type in air brush compressors and do a search) It can run up to 60psi and comes with two decent air brush sets.

Got the same one last year. The compressor is spot on. Not tried the airbrushes tho

Yeah, I've got one of those a year ago, started off well and now its leaking air and overheating ........... I'm not sure about their longevity??

If its leaking probably just a seal needs replacing. Will probably stop the overheating too

the same type i got as well,with a AB,


works real well but dose run a little warm ,so i put a fan on it to keep down the temp,

If its leaking probably just a seal needs replacing. Will probably stop the overheating too

I should real have a look for leaks,but have never got around to it,

Ok, being an idiot I bought a new Sparmax TC-63 compressor - it has a tank so I won't have the pulsed output any more, it should cut down on moisture output as I got paint coats ruined 3x yesterday with moisture. It also outputs like 47lpm so I can run any airbrushes or guns I want.


I also bought an in-line moisture trap for the bottom of the brush. No more mr nice guy.


lastly I got an Iwata rg-3 baby spray gun, I saw Paul Budzik using one and the finishes on larger items were great. I will report back tomorrow or later in the week with how I get on. Now... how to pay the credit card off... AGAIN!
