Thinner Problem

i was woundering if i must buy thinner from ebay... which will cost me 50$ to60$ for one bottle! with shipping to here


or i can use some creatix wicked reducers 0100 !!!! or i can use anything else like water?

W100 Wicked Reducer : add to colors to make thinner and more transparent. Allows colors to flow and spray well through smaller tip-size airbrushes and operated at lower PSI. settings. Hi Samer. Before anyone can answer your question you need to tell us what type of paint you want to thin?. Enamel ,Acrylic and Laquer based paints all need different types of thinners.

If your using Vallejo acrylic it will thin with water tamiya acrylic won't you have to use isopropyl alcohol or tamiya thinners anyway if you want to find out give it a try and spray a scrap test

Can't Tamiya acrylics be watered down to thin them?

Many people thin Tamiya acrylics with water... or cellulose thinners if you're hardcore like me *cough* :P

i have bought vallejo model air , ammo of mig and ak interactive paints. they are acrylci yeah?

I have thinned Vallejo with water and got good results. Although these days i use Vallejo thinner.

I see that some folks are using Windex window cleaner for thinning and cleaning, I know it's blue in colour, but that doesn't seem to be an issue (though I'd not use it with white or yellow). Anybody tried this? It's gonna be a shed load cheaper than proprietary stuff!

I use a mix of 50% Windex or Windolene, 50% Bottled water and 2 drops of Glycerine to make a 500ml bottle of thinners! I use the Glycerine as a flow enhancer and it also cleans my airbrush as well . The reason for using water is to cut the vinegar in the Windex otherwise your paint will clump up.

I haven't tried Windex John, but windscreen wash fluid works fine. I've used it with Model Air & Tamiya, with the latter it helps retard the drying & so makes brushing easier.

Well I might give both a try, need some new glass cleaner anyway! I noticed that my AK pigment fixer smelled familiar, took me a few minutes to work out that it was distilled turpentine, albeit in a less smelly form, you can buy 500 ml of the stuff for £12.95 and AK one cost £4.50 for 35 ml. So 500 ml of the AK works out at £63! 500 ml of the stuff would last forever!


Sometimes I think manufacturers are removing the micturition!

Can't Tamiya acrylics be watered down to thin them?

Never tried it apparently tamiya acrylics are not strictly water based or so I read somewhere on this forum I'll give it a go sometime

You're right Roger, Tamiya acrylics are synthetic & alcohol based, but as any scotch imbiber will tell you, water makes the perfect mixer!
