Halford's,pray primer: how long to cure?

I am using this now, having adopted the policy of avoiding using an airbrush (blockage, cleaning) where there is a spray can alternative.

How long does it take to cure/harden in a warm room ready for painting with gloss (Tamiya Synthetic lacquer TS in my case)?

    Thanks.

With spray cans I always tended to leave alone until the next day before continuing. However, I have not used Halfords in a long time so maybe someone can confirm if it dries fully quicker than that Steve.

To harden enough to lightly sand I leave a few days but to just apply top coat over night is more than long enough

Yes as above steve , i usually leave it about 24 hours or at least overnight, obviously the warmer the atmosphere its drying in will speed it up a bit. Cheers tony

I don't know that it's the same, but I leave the Halfords plastic primer until the next day, that is about 24 hours, before I rub it down and apply other paint.

          Cheers

Thanks. That's what I thought. I primed them this morning and will colour coat 24 hours later. They have been on a CH radiator which is on for part of the time, making the parts nicely warm to the touch, so that is an added safety factor.

Hmmm. You mention Halfords plastic primer. I recently bought a large can of "primer" (see photo).

Is this OK for what we do?

              What's the difference?

I have done a little priming using it, and overpainted with Tamiya Synthetic Lacquer (TS range). Is that OK?

Should I ditch the can and buy the "plastic primer" for future use?

That's the one I always use, never had any issues with any of the colours I buy.

Good. That's what I hoped. Thanks. Anyone else using the ordinary primer?

Yep , that's the one I use , touch dry in about ten minutes but like the other guys I leave it over night to cure.

Steve Halfords do 3 different ones, one is for plastic, one for metal and that one which is an all around use. Its the one I use as well and never had a problem with it! Unlike the others though I give it an hour then I sand and paint over it, never had a problem

Steve I used halfords primer for a long time until it got to about ยฃ7 a can if you have a toolstation close by use theirs exactly the same as halfords but ยฃ2 cheaper they do it in three colours grey, white, and red oxide the latter very good for tanks etc. Hope this helps.

Yep I've used it but now use pound shop (absolutely stinks but does the job for a quid ) (and can completely be removed with methylated spirits) if you use it Spreyton outside and let dry there too, great stuff.

I use Halfords primer on my Heli's,never had a problem. Would leave overnight though before putting on main coat or a couple of hours for sanding.
