    Thinning acrylic paints

I brush paint with acrylics. I have recently started using revell paints. These can be a bit on the thick side so I have been thinning them with tap water. Is this ok or am I just diluting the paint? Should I be using a thinner of some description?

Tap water is fine, I keep a bottle of water on the side with a little flow enhancer added for this purpose, but that’s not strictly necessary.

Our tap water is quite hard, so I pinched some of the de-ionised water that my Domestic Manager (aka SWMBO) uses for her steam iron. I don't know if it makes any difference, but can't hurt to have less impurities.
