    Yacht varnish...

Could yacht varnish be used while im waiting to get some normal stuff? Have a couple of painted models but need to varnish before I weather and put the decals on, would it be safe to use?? I know this might be a silly question.

What kind of models are you talking about?

It's not really suitable unless you're model is made of wood. it's very thick, gloopy stuff and has a brownish colour

Hi james , the only thing i would use yacht varnish on is a yacht (scale or full size!)or anything wood. If its any scale plastic model then its not really suitable, being very thick ,slow drying and most importantly not clear, having a yellow tint and yellowing with age too. Let us know what youre wanting to put it on and we can give a better answer and maybe some alternatives , cheers tony

I agree with Andy and Tony I was a decorator for years and have used this stuff on front and garage doors bannisters etc its great stuff but for modelling I can`t see it working even if you thin it and as the lads have said it also has a tint
