    Humbrol Clear

Hope I have not missed some one talking about this product.

Just got a pot of it. Brushed on a sample onto my test acrylic paint piece. Used a brush & it thinned out very well with out "curtains" forming & I did lash it on a bit thick. Dried in short time & was easily handleable after about an hour. This morning tired to scrape it and it very robust.

It also with one coat has a very high gloss finish.

    Smell little but nice.

Not airbrushed it yet. But then as it has brushed so well think I will keep to hand brushing for the moment.

Seems, I tread on eggshells here, to be superior to Klear, less smelly, cheap, robust & high gloss.

I tried both Humbrol clear and Johnsons Klear on a canopy, and I found I needed 2 dips on the Humbrol as it is thinner but it gave the better results.

Laurie check this link out from Humbrol on Youtube looks like it can be easily sprayed. I bought some from Modelzone when it had 50% off prior to their closure although not got round to using it yet.

I might give it a try myself. Always used the Vallejo varnish and it is very good but seems a bit thicker than this and perhaps more 'temperamental'.

Thanks for the brief write up Laurie. Could be a good product to try out later.

Pleasure Joe. Stuck some Tamiya tape over the "Clear" & really burnished it down. Released with out pulling any of the Clear. It really is robust certainly better than Vallejo Gloss.

I've been a user of Vallejo gloss in the spray can and never had any issues with it lifting. I give it a at least a few hours to cure before applying anything to it. It's not easy to find here and not cheap in the spray can, I use it because it has worked well since I started model building again. But I think I might try the Humbrol clear when my stock of Vallejo gloss runs out. Cheers.

I have a bottle of Humbrol Clear and it's worked very well, although I've only brushed it on for now as I haven't pushed it through my airbrush yet.

I've been using Clear - not tried any others (Klear etc), but really like the Humbrol stuff. In another thread, someone (sorry can't find it!) mentioned that the Clear 'bubbled' when applied with a brush. I've found the same thing... but the bubbles don't stick around, and even if there seem to be quite a few, they'll have gone in a couple of minutes, long before even touch dry.

Also worth pointing out that it's easy to get glossier finishes by repeated applications of Clear. It's pretty thin stuff, so multiple coats haven't been a problem for me. Decals go down on it like an old bloke having a weekend nap in front of the telly - quickly & easily with little fuss!

I have had issues with Micro Sol leaving white marks on a Clear coat - but a further application of Clear seems to sort this out. Not heard of others complaining about this, so maybe it's just me.

(Tried the Humbrol Satin cote - blech. Didn't ever seem to dry fully, still seems tacky now months after my only experiment.)
