    Anodised effect paint

I've seen in a pic on the Internet somebody had painted the nuts on the end of hoses so they looked like they had been anodised. Does anyone know how this is done with paint on plastic?

It's a very bright chrome blue an red

My best guess would be they have been spray painted.

I would start with a polished metal colour then a coat of clear red or blue. just enough to give colour without drowning the metal under painting.

Anodising in the real form is aluminium which has been subject to electrolytic action. All it means in practice look wise is a sparkly finish.

I would have a go at aluminium paint as the base. Vallejo do a number of translucent paints which will gove you colour. Another idea worth pursuing is just simple to varnish over the aluminium as that is what an anodised surface looks like.

On some re-refurbishment projects with an aluminium colour look we have sprayed with a metallic bronze to give a revitalised look.

Many aircraft parts were anodised using chromic acid. This gives a green/gold colour as seen in the interior of many large German WW2 aircraft. The tail wheel well and assembly on the Ju 88 retrieved from a lake in Norway shows this well.

I've got close by spraying a very thin yellow colour over an aluminium finish.

Tamiya do a anodised paint but at £10 a pop it is expensive. One method is to use glass paint over your ali or chrome base coat.

Ok thanks again all. Few things there to try I think. I'm determined to get a good finish even though I have almost no experience.

I was at the model exhibition in Telford last wk end as an exhibitor an the detail some of you guys get on these models is amazing !
