    Canopy Help !!

Hi all. Firstly, I think I'm in the right section, but if I'm not, my apologies.

Ok, I've had my first go at clear coating an aircraft canopy. Last night, I dipped it in neat humbrol gloss cote, let it drain and put it in a tuppawear box overnight ( shhh..don't tell SWIMBO....).

I open it this morning to find there are a few small marks in it, kind of like air bubbles ( I noticed these straight after dilling, but thought they would go?) and also one small hair !!! I had cleaned the canopy with a wet-wipe and allowed to dry, so I thought it was clean, but maybe it wasn't clean enough...?

I guess my question is, when fully dry, will I be able to polish out the marks or will that just make matters worse? If that's possible, does anyone know how long I should give the varnish to fully harden?

Hope that makes sense, and thanks in advance.

    Cheers, Neil

I would say Neil that it would be better to use Humbrol Clear or Johnsons Klear in future. They are very thin products & you would be unlucky to get bubbles. Gloss varnish is quite thick and not the ideal thing.

Just realised i have not answered your question Neil.

Think you will probably make it worse. Best thing would be to remove the varnish & start again with Clear or Klear.

Getting it off. Not to bad if it has not fully cured.

Not sure if it is enamel based varnish or acrylic. If acrylic then it may be possible to gently use water. I use Vallejo & their thinners will take it off. What ever thinners you use I would test it on a piece of clear plastic.

Please come back if you have difficulties as there are lots with other ideas.

Ahhhhh, so what I've actually done is use the wrong stuff !! That would kind of explain it....

Right, I shall probably leave well alone and chalk it up to experience. It's not too bad until you get really close up, so it's not the end of the world just yet !!

Thank you for your input Laurie, it's been a great help

        Cheers, Neil

Probably lucky it didn't tarnish the canopy Neil. Hope you can clean it up again with Laurie's advice.
