    Tamiya Corsair Paint Mixes

    Hi

Wondering if anyone can recommend a mix for the three colour scheme for Tamiya Corsairs, using Tamiya acrylics.

Don't want to use sir aerosols, and our options for paint brand as are somewhat limited here in New Zealand.

    Thx

Hi Chris. Where in NZ are you? I didn't think we were that limited with paints in my experience but that may depend on your location. Which colour scheme are you trying to replicate?

        Jo, Auckland based.

I want to do the scheme on the colour insert in the kit, but using acrylics so I can airbrush, instead of using cans, Tamiya mixes to be equivalent to AS8, AS19 and AS20.

Also to do the blue in the national insignia.

        Cheers

Tamiya do a "Sea blue" which is perfect for USN machines dark blue . Humbrol do "144" for the middle blue, then take your pick of whites. Worked for my Hellcat anyway.

If you are in Auckland Chris, there are no shortages of paint supplies or brands in the area. Try your local model shop. Googling Tamiya Corsair brings up many results including various paint mixes and advice for the US Navy/USMC schemes with the varying blues and US Navy white underside.
