meths too strong for paint removal

i have a problem with moving unwanted paint mistakes.

i base coated my model and sealed it with vallejo varnish i then added fine detail but my hands are not that steady and mistakes were made but couldn't really remove what i had done wrong without starting over so i thought i would wait for the coat to dry then wipe off any unwanted areas with a cotton swab of meth spirits which i use with my air gun. But found out to be so strong it took the paint and the varnish down to the primmer with just a few strokes. It only had to take of the vallejo acrylic top bit off. i thought the varnish underneath would hold. I tried a watering it down but lost faith.

Any help or advise with how you do yours as its a pain in the bum keep doing the same bit over and over again messing up.

If its acrylic and you mess up I wipe it off immediately with a cotton bud or paint brush wetted in water... As long as the paint under it is dry you can keep that up until you get it right.

would the same advise apply if a water based wash was applied

Hi Gary, if you have used a water based product then wipe off straight away using a damp cotton bud or brush, use a paper towel to dab gently the paint away so as not to smear it. If it had dried and is stubborn, then try a dab of airbrush cleaner, meths, white spirit on a cotton bud, not much, dip into the meths then dry off by patting on some paper-towel, then gently apply to the affected area, do not use much pressure and do in a small circular motion, lift off after a second or two and dab with clean kitchen roll, repeat if needed. Do not have the meths or white spirit in contact for two long and don't use vigorous pressure or movements with the cotton bud and paper towel, you could also use toilet tissue as it is softer. Another method id to try using that 'magic sponge' stuff you can get, try it wet and then with a smidgen of cleaner.
