    Eduard P/E for the schnellboot

    Hi All

I have a set of Photo etched for the italeri schnellboot. I think this is a rather stupid question but i just want to be sure.

Are these sprues pre-painted or are they just plain metal. Some parts do look pre-painted so im a confused MTB builder.

I hope someone can enlighten this confused old man.

Thanks for your time on this

    Cheers

    Si

I believe that they are bare metal. Consider it well as I have heard that the PE is not that big an improvement on the parts they replace and half of it does not need to be used.

If a kit is incorrect, or the detail bad, PE can be great. BUT if the kit is OK its just a wast of time, effort and money. Been there done that!

It's not a stupid question at all, I had the same dilemma myself when I got mine.

Some of it is etched (painted) on the hatches and other items, and will still show through thin coats of paint.

The bridge dials/gauges etc I painted then dry brushed to bring out the detail.

      I hope this helps

Hi Simon, i am building the 1/35 Schnellboot at the moment & i have all the PE you can get + the Skull Bridge.

None of it is painted & half of it i will not need.

        Hope this helps.

As this build has been my first foray into PE, I have really enjoyed the learning curve.

I think the pre-painted pieces Si is referring to, is the PE that has dark & light areas on the some pieces, the dark areas are actually slightly higher than the light (etched) areas, providing a very fine relief that will show through thin coats of paint.

Personally I think many of the PE for this kit provides more small detail to individual areas.

I bought the full caboodle, that includes the weapons, superstructure and the PE kit for the AFV Flak Vierling and haven't regretted it.

It's been FUN for me and I don't regret diving in at the deep end.
