Experiment with Nissan Clearcoat. Now coated and polished.

Finally I have managed to get a decent coat on a model. The instructions called for a mix of green and silver and after my last attempt at spraying silver I decided not to attempt it with the double action gun but use one a mate had given me ages ago a little single action one he used to spay motorcycle helmets.

As I already had the Humbrol acrylic metallics I decided to try them again with the addition of Humbrol number 3 (a nice green) Although this sprayed ok once again I had the problem of the paint beading up on the piece even though I had used a plastic primer. It took several attempts to stop this, in the end I had to spray a non thinned green (no Silver) to give it a coat, then several thin coats of the mixed colour when it had dried a bit. I am not overly impressed with the mixture as it seems to have turned the gloss green a bit on the matt side. Anyway a few pictures.

In the meantime I had been clearing out my tool box and I came across a little Nissan touchup pencil (brush really) for the clearcoat on a car and though I would give it a try so tried it out over the green and red on an old harrier I keep for experimenting on I gave it two coats in various places over acrylic paint and it has formed a really hard glossy coat and has not afftected the paint (so far its been three days) it seems to self level as I can't see any brush strokes could be worth thinking about for a real deep gloss.

    Looks well to me.

It's me...or the green paint has 'relief'? Or is just what are you looking for?

Looks good to me Barry, built this one some time ago & found it to be a nice fit all round.

      I'll be watching this one

Hi, I think the relief you can see on the photo are specks of silver, as to the eyeball and touch its very smooth. I forgot to show a little photo of the touch up gloss.

            its a nice colour!

The finish looks OK and I think a coat or two of clear coat over the top and it will be great.

As for that Harrier, are you putting that in the SIG. LOL

Yeah Barry, what did the Harrier do to you! As for the car paint job, nice work in the end, I think it looks great.

I have now stickered and done a couple of coats of the Nissan touch up clear paint over the top. I was worried in case there would be some adverse reaction with the decals but there wasn't . Finished off with some Auto-Glym polish 'borrowed' from my son. I think it came out ok.
