I often you oils as a wash, just mix with thinners, I use Windsor and Newton odourless thinners, to the consistency you want. I tend to mix in old beer bottle tops as a disposable container. So far my consumption has kept pace with use.
Having said that I am using oils I bought 25 years ago before I had a modelling hiatus. These days I have started using some of the Ammo enamel washes for convenience. If you are starting from scratch it may be cheaper to go with the commercial washes given the price of oil paints.Comment

I third that. I started out using bog standard turps/white spirit from DIY stores and it ate into the acrylic work in places even with a layer of varnish on top. I have used a couple of art shop thinners now which are a lot better. In fact I now use one which smells of oranges and I have no issues with odour from the thinners any more.Comment

Resurrecting an old thread but.....
Anyone know where i can buy cheap art shop thinners? Paying £10 for a small bottle seems like a con to me especially given the price of buying white spirit. Does the white spirit really eat into Klear/Hannants Satin varnishes that much?Comment

I got a bottle Of this from here ages ago.
At £7.49 it won’t brake the bank , ok you’ll have to add postage so may be worth grabbing something else while your at it?
my bottle will probably out live me !Comment
