    Using filters

About to use filters for the first time, are they applied on matt, gloss varnish or basic paint?

Looked on the web and some say on gloss but a few say gloss being so smooth does not give filters, washes etc anything to grip hold off. Getting a tad confused and that does not take much!!

personally i use filters over a matt base, that way the filter has something to grab on to.

i think when used over a gloss base the filter would just pool up and slide all over the place..... could be wrong though..

i suppose if you are using a paint brush to apply a filter then a gloss finish might help to move it around, but when using an airbrush to apply a filter surely a matt finish will help control where the filter is going..

(god i hope this makes sense...it does in my head..lol)
