    Z scale: is it practical?

Although I presently model airplanes and (to come) cars) I have just woken up to Z scale. Movies that I have seen show it starting, moving and stopping slowly, with no jerking at all - very smooth. I am tempted to do a very small ("shelf-top") layout just for fun.

But it's such as mall scale. Is it really practical?

I have seen some very good N gauge layouts but Z gauge are far and few between. It could be rather fun though.

How would you paint the figures?.i found doing the details on a 1/48 pilot quite difficult. The Z scale look almost impossible.
