Paul. I’ve actually sat in that type of engine one day at the CSX while waiting to get billing to drop my container on the ramp I seen the guy preparing the engineer and the Firemans stuff in the cab and when he came out I was sitting next to the engine and I asked him if he didn’t mind if I would look in the cab he said no and he gave me the grand tour of the cabin it was so neat I just had to go buy me one of those HO engines just like yours I’ll start a thread of my own and show you some pics some day soon

Chris, on page two of this thread there's a picture of a nearly completed grain elevator load/unload complex planned for the west wall of the layout. There is also a nearly completed coal mine/car loading complex for the east peninsula still in storage, so plenty more to come. PaulE
HI again PaulE that grain elevator is it in the pic with the red building an a crane an some yellow trucks in the foreground ? an this is comin on nice as I like to study your pics of your layout as its surpriseing what I dint notice the first time lookin at it an are your trains very costly as they are here in the uk I see one train like yours in a local railway shop an it over a 100 quid ?

Here it is, a very large modeling project. This view shows the railcar load/unload bay. The truck load/unload bay is on the other side. Still some paint & weathering to be done. Remember Chris, these have sat idle for almost 30 years so I can't imagine what replacement costs would be nowadays.

Laid some more concrete (not painted yet) & details like yard lighting (12vdc incandescent). No sooner had I finally got them nailed down than my sweater cuff broke one off. Poop.

Wish I had the space to have one to pay attention to. Paul, engine cost now days is about 10X what it was in the 80's and if you want to run DCC (Digital Command Control) you better take out a loan. Really liking the progress so far and I'm really getting the itch to do something RXR oriented. Rick H.

Thanks gents. I think I paid $23 for my first HO loco, a nicely detailed GP9 back in the 70s. DCC has some amazing features, the best of which is the sound, but not worth the money to convert 10 locos. PaulE.

All the concrete is laid & painted, fences erected, & guide rails cut. I'll add one more dbl. lamp, repair the broken one, install the guard rails, then on to finish the ballasting. Once all that is done, I'll check for any loose or missing details to fix then tip it up on its' backdrop & troubleshoot the short.

PaulE im also watchin with intrest an may I ask you a question regards the 12v incandescent) LIGHPOSTS IN PHOTO 1 have you had them a while or just bought them as I had them on my layout an I wonder can you still buy them ? as I broke mine exsacly like you did with the cuff of my coat catchin it so I used the long bulbs in the lamp stand for lights in my ships as they look like strip lights an id dearly like some more for my tiger as they don't do a long strip LED ?

Chris, they have changed the design so you can unplug them and cap the plug like a manhole cover for maint. or if you change period like Lee D. Walthers (THE RR Catalog) offers LED strip lighting (for passenger cars about 8to10") as well as individual bulbs & LEDs. They are on-line, just search lighting or scratch building materials. PaulE
