Hi all, yeah I didn't know the measurements of that arch so had to make a guess, I rather have a wider arch because of the main span being so long, tomorrow I be cutting the side beams out of 12 mm ply, would love the side to be one full length, would cost a lot of money and getting the timber the right height of 2 1/2 inches high.
Also the side beam will be 24 mm's thick will need to buy more ply, will be drilling holes down the middle off the arch height, hope I will have a drill bit long enough for the hangers if that is what they are called.
Simon I did look at modelling Sydney harbour, the top of the arch is 3 feet to scale too high and too much work , yeah you will have to wait till tomorrow, my arch is 2 foot off the main deck, the Story bridge in Brisbane is only 18 inches to the main tower.
I hate digital cameras, as they intend through the photo out, you are taking the pic, wide I should of used wide angle

Hi Tony,
are you only using the photo as a general idea rather than copying it?
I ask that because the proportions of your side beams do not appear to match those of the photo, the real thing being much more arched
the real bridge has a tall arch and half bridge width looks approx. 1.5 times the radius of the arch centre line (so overall width to height approx. 3:1) whereas yours looks to have a half width of around 3.5 times the centre radius or width to height of around 7:1

Hi Tony and welcome to the forum.
If this bridge is a part of the layout project, it should ideally be in that thread. Sort of keeping everything in the one place. Think of it as one big diorama.
I fear that if there are bits here and bits there people will find it hard keeping up.Comment

Hi Ian, I didn't know where to put the bridge project, can you move to the right thread in layouts be great then, yes it is will be the main feature of the layout as there will e a road bridge beside it later after the trains are running.
Many thanks TonyComment

I cut the side beams of the bridge today and joined two together, well only for a test run to see how the arch will sit, since I am not using aside beam in one whole piece will join the two 7 foot deck sections together with one 7 side beam and cut the other one in half to make up the 14 feet.
In first pic the arch is 2 feet from the track deck, where the rulers are is where the end sections will sit , 8 inches high to under the arch and 15 inches long, won't be fully closed in, will cut the centres out, bugger spelt centre wrong on the paper, that be another day, I will need to buy more ply..
Also that means I don't have to file all t]of the 12 inches, hopefully get some off cut ply form the timber mob just down the road, bridge will start taking shape once the end pieces are cut and screwed in place.

AN from the UK Tony looks like you are gonna have some fun building this bridge I did when I built my supspenshion bridge that you see in one of those pics I shew you of my model railway at least you hav'nt got to worry about getting all the wires the same length like I had to an 14 ft long are you gonna fit some metal I beams on the under side to stop the bridge sagging ?
