steve i would love you sign up to your website, i have a hotmail address but i dont want to assosiate my .net passport with my windows xp user account.

is there no other way of doing it???

do you have any experience in website programing (maybe even just ms frontpage) to make your own, pay £10-odd quid and get a domain name??

            RJ,

You joining the site shouldnt have anything to do with your XP user account at all. The MSN email just gives you opportunity to join MSN sites such as the one i set up.

Ive had a little experience with Frontpage, and could help you a little woth it - as for buying webspace and so on, sorry never done it.

Let me know if you need help with Frontpage

            Steve

oh no sorry steve you read that wrong, i was suggesting to you that you could make it with frontpage and buy a domain instead of using msn user groups.

i have plenty of experience with fontpage. not for a good 3 years though.lol

                RJ,

Right i got you now lol

I think I could make a website, all be it a very simple one. The problem i have is ive never bought and cannot afford webspace. I do have a bit of free webspace that i named for an other interest i have so it wouldnt be very appropriate for a model site lol

If you have info on free space that would be a help

                cheers

If you need a bit of free space I can set you up a sub-dir xxxxx.scale-models.co.uk or .net that goes for anyone that wants to make a site about models/modelling

That sub directory sounds like a good idea - can you explain a bit more about it please John.

                        Cheers

Likewise if you want to run .php or .asp pages i can help you out, otherwise i think Johns subdomain would be perfect!

                          A sub-domain is a partion of a domain, ie:

                          normal domain www.model.com

                          sub-domain www.submarines.model.com

Im not sure how John would work the uploads etc...im sure he will explain!

Uploads are done via ftp as normal or if using Frontpage you can use the publish site options, all sub domains are fully functioning sites complete with ftp, email etc and work totally independent from the main one, because it's a Linux server you can only use html and php, asp is a Windows programming language and will only run on Linux with mod_mono installed as this is still in beta I won't be installing it on the server, but for most people wanting to do a small site about their models html will be more than enough

thats a brillian idea john, and a very kind gesture, but to upload content surley you will need the passwords and (no offence to anyone) isnt that a bit risky???
