My website is the result of 5 years research, still ongoing, into the loss of a Lancaster bomber from 467 squadron RAAF, flying out of Waddington, Lincs. It commemorates "an ordinary crew" of Bomber Command - there was nothing special about them whatsoever, except that the Flight Engineer was my father's best friend when they trained together as pilots in S Rhodesia, Africa in 1943. His name was Max Venton. When he gained his wings, he was sent back to England and ended up as an F/E due to a surplus of pilots.
Max and the crew of this Lancaster, serial ME453 (PO-L) were killed on 3 March 1945 attacking the Dortmund-Ems Canal on their third operation. I was named after Max when I was born shortly after WW2 ended - the website is my tribute to him and the 55,000 other airmen of Bomber Command who paid the supreme sacrifice that we might be free from tyranny today. I hope you enjoy www.ordinarycrew.co.uk
