This link has been very useful. I have had a few customers inquiry as to where they could find instructions that they have lost. I search this link and have found what they were looking for. Thanks for posting!Comment

What are the copyright implacations of having a section for instructions?
I mean, if there was a disclaimer saying that the space provided is for customers to place their instructions for personal use only then surely that would be fine? If someone downloaded them then technically they would be stealing them?
I personally say go for it and of anyone complains just remove the sections they complain about. Its not like you are giving the parts away.Comment

This has been mentioned before and John did say that he had to removed scanned materials from the site. Publishing them on Scale Models forum is not a practical thing as it could lead to serious issues against the forum. Some of these large companies do not take kindly to breach of copyright, and quite rightly so. It is OK to remove anything that is inadvertently used that someone objects to when asked. It would be disrespectful and a tad silly not to. However, to publish copied items that are distinctly marked copyright without first seeking and getting in writing, the permission of the copyright owner to do so could lead to serious litigation against the forum, which is ultimately John.
I cannot see any problem with people saving instructions from builds they have done and, if a member finds they have lost them (as has happened to me quite recently) then I am sure no one would object if the manufacturer does not publish instructions online, that they can be exchanged. This would be a matter between the two individuals and would not in any way shape or form involve the forum.
Also remember that many manufacturers do actually have them online. Long after I sent out an SOS for instructions for a Hobbyboss T34 I was told that they were available online, I had just not searched hard enough.
So, by all means keep your instructions if you wish and by all means shout up if you find that you have lost them. But keep any transaction private between you and the person wanting them please.Comment

What if everybody kept their used instruction sheets and entered them on a list on a section of the forum, no downloading of pages onto the site involved just a list of modellers names and below each name a list of the plans they have kept, then if you require a set you can privately contact that person and arrange a copy, just an idea.Comment

That's actually a much better idea darren and does legitimately get around the legal problems. The biggest issue, as Graham has said. is liability for the forum, which could be in trouble if knowingly allowing copyright infringements to occur.
I like the idea of a list though, maybe a PM to John would generate some useful ideas.Comment

Easy way would be to start a thread in Reference, add a post of what instructions you hold and then edit your post each time you have new ones. This way anyone looking for instructions can look through the thread and PM the person who has them listed.
If we keep the thread to just individual lists, it will be quite compact and easy to look through, no chat or anything.
EDIT: I have set up a Sticky in Reference, it will show under the main reference section.Comment
