    fishing nets

i am building a 1/20th scale crab cutter and needed some thing to make the nets, so i went to supa drug and bought a bath scrunge in white which i will now soak in a bowl with a couple of old tea bags to make it look old , then i will open it out cut the shape reqiured and stich together , the netting comes as a tube so cut to length and insert a draw string at one end. they cost 0.99p from any boots, lloyds chemist etc.

pictured is one as bought and one opened out.

    paul.

Have you checked the garden centres (B&Q for example) for a whole range of netting types used for fruit protection? Some are usable for boat modelling.

i suppose it all depends on the scale of the model.

for exaple you can get different size (as in the whole) fishnet stockings.

...not that i know these things!!!

The best nets I ever used on a model were ladies hair nets. They make brilliant camo nets and would probably do your job nicely as well.

You can even stiffen them up with a coat of ladies air spray as well, cheap aerosols in £1 shops, works well.A few quick blasts from a distance gives a thin mist of varnish like substance.

i am with bunk on this one hair nets are ideal, - finding them is the hardest thing now !- also they look awesome on fishing boat models, but it does depend upon what scale you are building,

my trawler just needed floats adding to the net, so after buying a tub of beads for necklace making from the local craft shop i sat and sewed each float onto the net......

after several hours it was just what i needed.....

                perfect !
