Hi just looking for some advice on painting the MPC Eagle Transporter (22") - I normally do 1/35 military but fancied doing something different and having watched Space 1999 as a kid seemed a fitting subject. Looking on recommendations as to the colour 'space' white to use as a base coat? All help/advice would be welcomed.

Painting the Eagle Transport:
If you ask around the color that you will be recommended is Ford Diamond White as the color of choice. Instead I used Tamiya XF-2 Flat White because I knew that later on the white was going to be toned down with an enamel wash. By the way, the wash used on this Eagle Transporter was PLW Light Gray A.MIG-1600 from AMMO Mig. Also A.MIG 1601 was used randomly on certain areas. Some paneling was done via airbrush and pastels over masked areas. Tamiya XF-19 Light Gray was used on the engines area with the air compressor set to around 8-10 psi. That way I got the spatter weathered effect in some areas. -

Many thanks for the info - I was thinking of heading down the rattle can route, just given the size of the model but I do use Tamiya/Mig and Vallejo and as you rightly pointed out when you start adding washes, panel liner etc the overall tone will change but great reference to get me going.
many thanksComment

Hi Stu
I completed the 22โ Eagle last year and I used Ford Diamond White. It actually works out a relatively cheap option. I decanted the rattle cans and sprayed it through my airbrush for a little more control but i think the cans will do fine.
Hereโs my effort - the Rescue Eagle (red striped pod) and I added lighting to the cockpit and down thrusters. Itโs a good kit and I enjoyed building it, being something a little bit different for me. Iโm sure youโll enjoy it too.
Cheers
Paul

Thanks for your help - great looking model especially with the lights. Hoping to put some LEDS into mine as well, certainly brings the model to life.Comment

Thanks Stu for the complement. The Eagle is easy to light because thereโs lots and lots of room inside to fit the electronics and batteries. The usual steps need to be taken to prevent light leaks but other than that its really straight forward.
Cheers

Good point about light leaks - certainly something to plan - just hope my wiring will be up to speed :anguished:Comment

Not done the larger version as I did the smaller one but used the Ford diamond white.
Mine is different as it is a Earth to Mars version. done after the Moon left and mankind needed to explore Mars properly as another home.
Fitted long range rockets etc and made her look very worn and battered, I also mounted it on a base with some buildings.
Should be a smashing model when finished mate.Attached Files- 17523200_1312823635469386_6921385836238177688_n.jpg (5.8 KB, 3 views)
